The Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) or cashew shell oil is a natural resin that is found in the honeycomb structure of the cashew nutshell. We obtain this as a byproduct of processing cashew nuts.
Composition of this oil varies depending on how it is processed. CNSL dermatogenic, like the oils of the poison ivy, and present danger
during manual cashew processing. Hence we take due care during processing of cashew.
CNSL is a raw material of multiple use in manufacturing drugs, antioxidants, fungicides, etc. It is used in tropical folk medicine and for
anti-termite treatment of timber.It is also used in formulating brake oil.
